As every year since 2009 paysages tries to forecast the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature [1]. Difficult as every year, but this year my favourite candidate for the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature are António Lobo Antunes[2] followed by Mia Couto. I am currently reading «A outra margem do mar » in the french translation « L’Autre Rive de la mer » of Dominique Nédellec.

And as Florence Noiville wrote in her critique of l’Autre Rive de la mer in Le Monde „Tout cela n’était-il que mirage ?, se demande à travers lui le grand Lobo Antunes. Pendant que le lecteur, admiratif, s’interroge : qu’attendent donc les jurés de Stockholm pour lui décerner enfin leur prix ?[3] (translated: Was it all a mirage? asks the great Lobo Antunes. While the reader, in admiration, wonders: what are the Stockholm jurors waiting for to finally award him their prize?“ I think Lobo Antunes would very much deserve the prize. Even if « A outra margem do mar“ has’nt been translated in to English.
So I would position António Lobo Antunes in first place followed by Mia Couto and furthermore the other aspirants of my permanent list of candidates for the Nobel Prize in Literature: Lyudmila Ulitskaya, Boualem Sansal , Claudio Magris, Adunis, Margaret Atwood, Jamaica Kincaid, Anne Carson, Art Spiegelman, Marjane Satrapi, Don DeLillo , Kamel Daoud, Salman Rushdie, Pierre Michon! More or less the same names as in my forecast list of the last years, but fare away from Ladebrokes betting lists 2024 . A review of some more “Nobel Prize in Literature 2024 Speculations” can be found here in the Literary Saloon. Perhaps more interesting for the German literary world than the nobel price speculations is the information we can in the find in the Literary Saloon review (7 October 2024 – Monday) concerning the “Suhrkamp takeover”.
And now we have to wait until 10 of October and meanwhile continuing reading « L’Autre Rive de la mer » and other interesting readings.

Dans son nouveau roman, le grand écrivain portugais déploie sa phrase-flux pour évoquer une révolte dans une plantation de coton, et sa répression, en 1961.
