Paysages forecast for Nobel Prize in Literature 2014

Tomorrow, at 1.00 pm Stockholm time, the winner of this year Nobel Prize in Literature will be announced. As every year, paysages (see here: 1, 2, 3, 4 , 5) tries to forecast the winner, or authors which seem to have good chances to get the Nobel Prize in Literature. Today and yesterday M.A. Orthofer has published a list of potential winners in the Literary Saloon. The Ladbrokes odds currently (08.10.2014 17:15) puts Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o (7:2), as a potential winner for the price, followed by on the second position by  Haruki Murakami  (9/2) and  Svetlana Alexievich (6/1) on the third position. My personal favorites for this year Nobel Prize in Literature are Svetlana Alexievich, Ismail Kadare,  Adonis, Patrick Modiano, Péter Nádas and  Assia Djebar. Perhaps Peter Handke has also some chances to be under the finalists. Recently Paul Edel dedicated him a longer article under the title of “Chemin solitaire de Peter Handke (in French/ the solitary way of Peter Handke)”. If I would have to choose under these 7 writers, – I would choose Svetlana Alexievich, – her last book “La Fin de l’homme rouge ou Le Temps du désenchantement”[1] – has been awarded the Prix Médicis essai 2013[2], and I have a somewhat feeling that with this book she could be “nobélisable” to use a French expression.

In my 2012 forecast I wrote Mo Yan on my personal favorites list for Nobel Prize in Literature 2012 – and then Mo Yan has been really awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature 2012.  In my 2009 forecast, “Le Nobel à Herta Müller? Der Literaturnobelpreis für Herta Müller?” I predicted Herta Müller to be the winner of Nobel Prize in Literature 2009. Concerning Herta Müller, – she has recently published a new book – “Mein Vaterland war ein Apfelkern – Ein Gespräch mit Angelika Klammer” – a book in which she explains how she began writing ….. a book worth reading!

In some hours we will know the happy winner of Nobel Prize in Literature 2014, and how precise the paysages forecast for the Nobel Prize in Literature 2014 has really been ….

[1] The book « La Fin de l’homme rouge ou le temps du désenchantement (Vremia second hand. Konets krasnovo tcheloveka), de Svetlana Alexievitch, traduit du russe par Sophie Benech » has to my knowledge not be translated into English. Le Monde.fr has published an interesting critique about the book under the title “Svetlana Alexievitch: en lettres rouges” in October 2013.

[2] Svetlana Alexievitch was also the laureate of the Friedenspreis des Deutschen Buchhandels 2013.
